The small business website launch checklist

A practical pre-launch checklist for small business websites, from mobile testing and contact forms to page titles and local details.

Launching a new website is exciting. It is also easy to miss a small detail when you have been looking at the same pages for weeks. Use this plain-language checklist to make sure the essentials are ready before your site goes live.

Make the next step obvious

A visitor should not have to guess what to do. Decide on the main action for each page: call, request an estimate, book a consultation, or visit your location. Use clear button text such as “Request an estimate” instead of a vague “Learn more.”

Check that your phone number and email are clickable on mobile. If you use a contact form, submit a real test message and confirm it reaches the right inbox. Review the confirmation message too, so people know what happens next.

Read it on a phone

Many customers will first find a local business while they are away from a desk. Open every important page on a phone-sized screen. Look for text that is too small, buttons that are hard to tap, awkward line breaks, and images that push the important information far down the page.

Ask someone who has not seen the site to find your services and contact details. Notice where they pause. Their questions are useful clues about what needs to be clearer.

Check the details search engines and customers rely on

Give each page a specific page title and a useful main heading. A home page title might name the business, service, and area it serves; a service page should describe that service directly. Write a short description that accurately summarizes the page.

Confirm your business name, service area, hours, and contact information are current and consistent wherever they appear. Add descriptive alternative text to meaningful images, and use headings in a sensible order so the page is easier to scan and navigate.

  • Proofread names, prices, service descriptions, and legal details.
  • Check that internal links work and that no draft text or placeholder images remain.
  • Make sure you can access your domain, website platform, and analytics accounts.
  • Publish a privacy notice if your forms or tools collect personal information.

Plan for the first month

A launch is a starting point. Decide who will handle small edits, how you will notice enquiries that fail to arrive, and when you will review what customers ask. Keep a short list of improvements rather than trying to perfect every detail before launch.
